'Rico' Leads Troopers To Cocaine Stash After Thruway Stop

When troopers pulled over a car on on I-87, an Ulster County sheriff's K-9 helped find 152 grams of cocaine, according to state police.

PLATTEKILL, NY — A New York City man has been charged with intent to sell drugs after a traffic stop on the New York State Thruway.

On January 8, at around 2 p.m., members of the Troop F Community Stabilization Unit (CSU) stopped a 2013 Chevrolet Cruze on I-87 north, near exit 18 in the town of Plattekill.

Troopers identified the driver as James J. Harris of New York City.

A search of the vehicle, aided by K9 Rico from the Ulster County Sheriff's Office, resulted in 152 grams of cocaine.

The 40-year-old was arrested and charged with felony criminal possession controlled substance with intent to sell, and felony sale of a controlled substance. He was also given a handful of traffic tickets.

Following the arrest, Harris was arraigned at the Ulster County Centralized Arraignment Part and remanded to Ulster County Jail with no bail pending legal proceedings.
