On Jan. 11, Flores-Banegas returned to the same apartment, knocked on the window and had an argument with the victim. He then lifted open the window and pried open the metal bars enough to enter into the apartment.
While inside, he grabbed the victim by her hair, punched in the face and broke her cell phone. He fled before the police arrived and wasn’t apprehended until May 15.
On Jan. 5, in the town of Mount Hope, Salaman had an argument with his girlfriend in violation of an order of protection. As the argument escalated, he threw boxes and a TV remote at the victim while she was holding their infant child.
Afterward, Salaman made threats to the victim about her family. He fled before police arrived but was later taken into custody.
Hoovler said that home is the one place where everyone deserves to feel safe.
“I commend the bravery of the survivors in these cases who came forward and were heard,” he said. “For those who refuse to abide by orders of the court, prison sentences, such as those imposed in these cases, are often an appropriate outcome.”
Hoovler urged all victims of domestic violence to seek out the support available to them by contacting law enforcement, his office or organizations such as Fearless! Hudson Valley that are there to assist.
