Syracuse Man Accused Of Hitting Officer, Resisting Arrest

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — A Syracuse man was accused of hitting a police officer and resisting arrest in the town of Poughkeepsie.

The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department said Ashton Dean, 19, of Syracuse, was arrested Tuesday and charged with second-degree assault, a felony, resisting arrest, a misdemeanor, and trespassing, a violation.

Police said, around 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, officers were sent to the Poughkeepsie Plaza, 2600 South Road, for a complaint of a trespasser on the property.

An investigation determined that Dean, who had previously trespassed at the property, had returned and caused damage at the shopping mall.

Dean was located a short time later walking near 2628 South Road. When he was approached by an officer, authorities said he was combative, struck the officer and then fled on foot.

The man was apprehended and placed into custody a short time later in the rear of the location, which was the Dutchess Golf Course.

Dean was arraigned in the Town of Poughkeepsie Court and released to the supervision of Dutchess County Probation.

The Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office recommended a $2,500 bail or $5,000 bond.

Dean is scheduled to appear in the Town of Poughkeepsie Court at a later date.

The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department was assisted by the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office.
