Teens Steal Handgun From Woman Who Gave Them A Lift: NYSP

The woman didn't notice her gun was missing from her purse until after she dropped the teens off and returned home, police said.

CAIRO, NY — Two teenagers were accused of stealing the handgun of a woman who gave them a ride to a store.

The New York State Police said troopers were sent to Main Street in the town of Cairo Monday for a report of a stolen gun.

An investigation found that the owner of the handgun had given two juveniles a ride in her car to a local store.

The woman went to the store to buy some items, and after she dropped off the teens and returned home, she discovered her .25 caliber Beretta handgun was missing from her purse.

Troopers said they found the teens stole the handgun.

On Tuesday, one of the teens was arrested. The second was arrested Wednesday.

Both teens were charged with fourth-degree grand larceny and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, felonies.

They were released on appearance tickets to return to family court at a later date.
