Trooper Injured When Truck Rear-Ends Police Car

TUXEDO, NY — A New York State Police car was struck on Interstate 87 while assisting a disabled vehicle.

State police said, shortly after noon Friday, a trooper was helping a disabled vehicle on I-87 northbound in the town of Tuxedo in Orange County.

The troop car was parked on the left shoulder providing traffic control behind the disabled vehicle in the area of mile marker 41.2, between exit 16 (Harriman) and exit 15A (Suffern/Sloatsburg), when it was struck from behind by a pickup truck.

The impact caused the police car to strike the disabled SUV.

Police said the trooper, who was seated in the vehicle at the time of the crash, suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening and was taken to Hackensack Medical Center.

The two people in the SUV were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital for injuries that were not considered life-threatening. The driver of the truck was not injured.

Police said the investigation is ongoing, and more information will be released when it becomes available.
