Truck Failed To Yield Right Of Way In Fatal Motorcycle Crash: NYSP

The deadly collision happened Saturday evening in the town of Deerpark.

DEERPARK, NY — Police released more information Wednesday about a fatal collision between a motorcycle and a pick-up truck in Orange County.

The New York State Police said an investigation into the crash that happened Saturday between a 2013 Toyota Tundra pick-up truck and a 2000 Harley-Davidson found that the driver of the truck was traveling south on Route 209 in the town of Deerpark when he failed to yield the right of way.

Authorities said the truck made a left-hand turn in front of the motorcycle that was traveling north on Route 209.

David Castner, 54, of Highland Lakes, New Jersey, was the operator of the motorcycle. He tried to avoid the pick-up truck when the collision occurred, police said.

The crash occurred shortly before 7 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of Route 209 and Third Street in Deerpark.

When responders got to the location, they found the motorcycle underneath the truck.

Castner had been ejected from his motorcycle.

He received medical attention from Cuddeback Fire Department Medics, Port Jervis Ambulance EMS and Port Jervis Police Department officers and was taken by Port Jervis Ambulance to Garnet Health Medical Center where he was pronounced dead from his injuries.

Police said it is still under investigation whether charges will be filed.
