Ulster Man Accused Of Having Loaded Handgun, Driving Drunk

His car was initially pulled over for violating traffic laws, police said.

NEWBURGH, NY — An Ulster County man was accused of driving while drunk and having a loaded handgun in the city of Newburgh.

Shortly after 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, New York State Police troopers said they saw a 2014 Lexus IS F traveling on Broadway and William Street in the city of Newburgh in violation of traffic laws.

The car was stopped by troopers who identified the driver as Jason Lynch, 44, of the town of Lloyd.

Police said his driver’s license was suspended, and he was impaired by alcohol.

While being taken into custody, troopers found a loaded Desert Eagle .357 in the front of his pants.

It was determined that Lynch had a blood alcohol content of 0.08 percent.

He was charged with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a firearm, felonies.

Lynch was arraigned by a Blooming Grove town justice and sent to the Orange County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail, $20,000 bond or $30,000 insurance bond.
