'Violent Dispute Involving Pistol' Leads To Arrest: Sheriff

A 58-year-old man is accused of firing the pistol, pointing it at the victim, and then assaulting the victim, according to the sheriff.

TOWN OF BEEKMAN, NY — A Dutchess County man was arrested after a terrifying incident in a quiet Hudson Valley neighborhood.

The Dutchess County Sheriff's Office said that 58-year-old Joseph M. Reynolds, of Beekman, was arrested in connection to a violent dispute that took place inside of a home last week.

Around 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, deputies responded to a home on Brothers Road, in the Town of Beekman, after receiving a report about an argument where one person reportedly had a pistol.

Deputies soon found Reynolds and took him into custody, and the weapon was secured.

The sheriff's office says that Reynolds is accused of engaging in a violent dispute during which he allegedly fired the pistol, pointed it at the victim, and then assaulted the victim. The victim was able to escape with non-life threatening injuries, according to the sheriff's office, and the two rounds that were fired from the pistol struck a window.

Reynolds was charged with felony second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, felony third-degree criminal mischief, felony second-degree assault, felony criminal use of a firearm, and second-degree menacing.

The sheriff's office was assisted at the scene by the New York State Police.
