In northern parts of the region, snow and sleet is expected to accumulate 4 to 7 inches along with some ice, according to the weather service.
For Rockland and Westchester counties, 2 to 4 inches of snow and a light glaze of ice is forecast, according to the weather service.
The Hudson Valley north of Albany could see 6 to 8 inches of snow, Rathbun said.
The snow is forecast to begin after 1 p.m. Saturday and continue until early Sunday before changing to plain rain. Ice is forecast to mix in late Saturday and early Sunday.
All precipitation is expected to taper off by Sunday evening, Rathbun said.
Once the precipitation ends late Sunday, the story shifts to freezing cold temperatures.
