Woman On E-Bike Dies In Crash With Car

Police said the car left the scene of the crash but was later located.

MONTGOMERY, NY — A woman passenger on an e-bike was killed Saturday in a crash with a car in Orange County.

The New York State Police said the crash happened around 12:45 a.m. Saturday on Route 52, between Belair Road and Harts Lane in the town of Montgomery.

The initial investigation found that a car was traveling west on Route 52 when it struck a battery-powered bicycle that was being operated by Jaleek Johnson, 21, of Walden.

Police said the car that struck the e-bike left the scene, but was located later.

Logan Kelly, 22, of Walden, was driving the car, which was a 2013 Subaru Impreza, police said.

Johnson was flown to Westchester Medical Center and was listed in critical condition.

His passenger, Christiana Kovacs, 21, of Montgomery, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said the investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.

State police were assisted at the scene by the Town of Montgomery Police Department.
