WOODSTOCK, NY — The show will go on. And so will the Sparkle Party.

The Woodstock Public Library District Board of Directors voted unanimously Thursday to allow the Drag Story Time and Sparkle Party to go on as planned.

Board President Jeff Collins said the resolution — after having received three complaints — supporting the event was based on a recommendation from the policy committee, the Daily Freeman reported.

The board said the complaints had to be dealt with as an obligation to take all points of view into consideration.

Drag Story Time and Sparkle Party, which is scheduled from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, came to fruition after the library received questions from community members about why it had never had such an event.

The storytellers for Saturday will be local entertainers Amber Guesa and Katarina Mirage.

Among the books they will be reading are “Not Quite Narwhal” by Jessie Sima, which is about a unicorn born to a family of narwhals, and “The Family Book” by Todd Parr, which talks about embracing the different variations in families.

Hollie Ferrara, the library’s children’s programmer, said the special event during Pride month is not replacing its regular story time program which will be at 11 a.m. Saturday.

“We are trying to expand our reach,” she said.

The Drag Story Time and Sparkle Party are scheduled to be on the library's front lawn, but the possibility of inclement weather may cause it to be moved inside.

The Woodstock Public Library District is located at 5 Library Lane in Woodstock.
