Afternoon Midtown Train Slashing Ends With Arrest: NYPD

After a man was slashed on board a Midtown F train, officers cuffed a suspect downtown.

MIDTOWN, NY — A straphanger was slashed by a man harassing subway riders aboard a Midtown F train Thursday afternoon, police said.

The suspected slasher, Robert Clare, remained on the train and was later arrested by NYPD officers at the Delancey Street station, officials told Patch.

Clare was charged with assault, menacing and criminal possession of a weapon, according to police.

At about 1:30 p.m., the victim — a 28-year-old man — was riding a southbound F train near the Lexington Av/53rd St. station when he saw a man harassing other passengers, according to NYPD officials.

The harassing man, who police say was Clare, then walked up to the 28-year-old and slashed him with a sharp object in the face, chest, back and forearm.

First responders found the victim in the Lexington Av/53rd St. station and brought him to New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Medical Center in stable condition, officials said.

Clare remained on board the train and was apprehended at the Delancey Street station without incident, police said.

Officials couldn't confirm if the man had any prior arrests.

The slashing happened on the same day that police arrested another suspect in a brutal Midtown subway shove which left a woman in critical condition on Wednesday.
