MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — The landmarked West 40th Street tower that has housed the four-star Bryant Park Hotel will be converted back into an office building, according to reports.

The entire black-brick and gold American Standard Building across from Bryant Park has hit the commercial real estate market, the New York Post first reported. The Bryant Park Hotel took over the early 20th century tower in 1998 and converted the building into a 128-room hotel.

Marketing materials analyzed by the Post revealed that office spaces in the buildings will range from 1,900 to 7,535 square feet. Asking prices were not included in the materials, according to the report.

The American Standard Building was built in the 1920s and designed by noted architects Raymond Hood and John Howells, who specialized in the Art Deco style popular in New York City at the time. The 26-story tower is set apart from the rest of the Midtown skyline due to its distinct black-brick facade. The materials cause the building's color scheme to be reversed at night.

The tower, initially called the American Radiator Building, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a city landmark.
