
MIDTOWN, NY — An orange tabby cat survived a three-story jump to safety — landing on its feet — during a fire in an apartment building in Midtown on Sunday night, according to ABC 7, which first reported the story.
According to the New York City Fire Department, the fire broke out on the third floor of a Midtown high-rise on West 43rd Street between 7th Avenue and 8th Avenue around 5:40 p.m.
More than 70 firefighters and emergency personnel responded to the scene and got the fire under control by 6:45 p.m., the FDNY told Patch.

Three people were injured in the fire, and two of them were transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, FDNY officials said.
The third person refused medical attention at the scene, according to the FDNY.

According to ABC 7, the tabby was evaluated by rescuers and potentially has a broken jaw, but will be soon reunited with its owner.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, FDNY officials said.
