Death Of 7-Year-Old Who Fell From Hotel Treated As Homicide: NYPD

The boy and his mother were found dead Friday after falling from a Midtown hotel window.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — The death of a 7-year-old boy who fell from a Midtown Manhattan hotel window is now being investigated as a homicide, police announced Monday.

Stephanie Adams, 47, and Vincent Nicolai, 7, were found dead Friday on a second floor balcony of the Gotham Hotel — located on East 46th Street between Fifth and Madison avenues — around 8:30 a.m., an NYPD spokesman said.

Only the death of Vincent is being classified a homicide, an NYPD spokesman said. Police are continuing to investigated Adams' death as a suicide.

The mother and son were pronounced dead on the scene, an NYPD spokesman said. On Friday, an NYPD spokesman could not confirm how the mother and son fell. An investigation into their deaths remains ongoing.

Adams gained fame as a model and posed as the centerfold for Playboy Magazine in its November 1992 issue. Adams was retired from modeling and her personal website described her current life as "continuing to enjoy as much of a private life as she can possibly have with her son."

Adams was reportedly engaged in a bitter custody battle with ex-husband Charles Nicolai, an unnamed friend of Adams told the New York Post. Nicolai's lawyers recently demanded that the mom hand over the 7-year-old's passport, the Post reported. The NYPD responded to five domestic disputes between the couple from July 2017 to March 2018, the Daily News reported.
