Elderly Man Shoved Down Midtown Subway Station Stairs: NYPD

A woman attempting to stop the attacker was also assaulted, police said.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — Police are searching for a man accusing of shoving an elderly man down the steps of a Midtown Manhattan subway station and attacking a woman who attempted to stop him from fleeing the scene, police said.

The assaults occurred on Thursday, Jan. 16 inside the Lexington Avenue and East 59th Street station, police said. The attacker approached a 74-year-old man from behind on the station steps and pushed him down, causing the man to suffer lacerations to the head, an NYPD spokesperson said.

When a 45-year-old woman confronted the attacker, she was punched in the face, police said.

Medics treated both victims and took them to NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital in stable condition, police said.

Police recently released a photo of the suspect taken by security cameras. The NYPD did not reveal a motive for the attacks.
