Fire Breaks Out In Empire State Building Ground Floor: FDNY

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — A small fire broke out Wednesday afternoon at the base of the Empire State Building, according to fire officials.

The blaze started in the Midtown landmark's commercial concourse on Fifth Avenue about 12:30 p.m., fire officials said. Firefighters declare the scene under control shortly before 1 p.m., according to the FDNY.

No injuries were reported during the fire, an FDNY spokesman said.

Twenty-six fire units with 86 fire and EMS personnel responded to the scene of the fire, an FDNY spokesman said. FDNY trucks and other vehicles lined Fifth Avenue during the response, according to witness video from the scene.

City fire marshals will investigate the cause of the fire.
