Flag-Waving Trump Fan Interrupts De Niro's Broadway Show

"A Bronx Tale: The Musical" is co-directed by Robert De Niro, who went on a profanity-laced tirade against the president at the Tony Awards.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — A supporter of President Donald Trump was thrown out of a Broadway theater during a weekend showing of "A Bronx Tale: The Musical," according to an audience member who documented the incident on social media.

The incident follows actor Robert De Niro's well-publicized "f--k Trump" speech at the Tony Awards. DeNiro is the co-director of "A Bronx Tale."

The Trump fan made his display of support during the curtain call of the Saturday night performance when he stood up, unfurled a "Trump 2020 keep America great" flag, and faced the audience, according to the witness account.

"The times we live in. At the end of A Bronx Tale, a man turned around and faced the audience to show us how big of a pair he has. He was escorted shortly after. It's sad that people can't enjoy a beautiful show and embrace its unifying message without politicizing it," the witness said on Twitter.

The Tony Award audience gave De Niro a standing ovation, prompting him to repeat himself. De Niro starred in and directed the movie version of "A Bronx Tale" which was released in 1993.

Saturday night's disruption isn't the first time Trump's supporters have gotten thrown out of theater productions in New York City. Two men — Salvatore Cipolla and Jovanni Vale — were arrested last year for storming the stage of the Shakespeare in the Park production of "Julius Caesar."

The production drew the ire of the right-wing media and supporters of Donald Trump due to "Julius Caesar's" director Oskar Eustis' decision to adapt the play into a reflection on modern politics in which Caesar trades in his toga for a boxy suit and extra-long tie. While Trump is never mentioned by name, the actor portraying Caesar wears slicked-back strawberry blond hair and seems to draw inspiration from the 45th U.S. president.

The outrage led to Delta Airlines and Bank of America ending their sponsorships of Shakespeare in the Park.
