Man Arrested After Antisemitic Midtown Punch: NYPD

Police say the man told a woman he punched her because "you are Jewish."

MIDTOWN, NY — Police arrested a man who they claim punched a woman inside a Midtown subway station because she was Jewish, officials said.

Christopher D'Aguiar, 28, was arrested on Tuesday in the Lower East Side and was charged with hate crime assault, aggravated harassment, assault and harassment, police said.

The 29-year-old victim was walking in the 7 train passageway at 42nd Street and Lexington Avenue at about 11:30 p.m. on Oct. 14 when a man suddenly punched her in the face, according to police.

When she asked the stranger why he punched her, he simply said "you are Jewish," officials said.

The woman was reported to have minor injuries.
