Man Robbed While Dozing Off In Midtown Subway Station, Police Say

A 38-year-old man fell asleep on the platform of a Midtown subway station and woke up with his wallet missing.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — The NYPD is trying to identify a man who robbed a subway passenger as they fell asleep on a Midtown Manhattan subway platform, police said.

The pickpocket approached a man who was sleeping on a bench at the West 50th Street and Eighth Avenue train station during the early morning hours of Saturday, Dec. 8 and lifted a wallet from the man's pants, police said.

The wallet contained debit and credit cards and $9 in cash, police said. The sleeping man was not harmed during the robbery, police said.

Police describe the suspect as a man in his 40s who stands about 5-foot-8 and weighs about 175 pounds. The man was last seen wearing a black waist length coat with patches on each sleeve, black sweatpants, grey sneakers and a black New York Yankees hat, police said.
