HELL'S KITCHEN, NY — Police are looking for a man accused of opening fire on a residential street in Hell's Kitchen — an incident that might have gone unnoticed had a woman not noticed damage to her car.

The 32-year-old woman went to the police last Thursday, saying her auto-body shop had told her that damage she found on her 2020 Ford Edge had been caused by gunfire.

Police investigated and discovered that two nights earlier, around 2:55 a.m. on West 54th Street between Ninth and 10th avenues, an unidentified man fired his handgun multiple times, hitting the woman's car, which was unoccupied.

The man fled in a gray Infiniti Q50, being driven by another man. The woman's car had damage to the rear driver's side bumper.

It was not clear whether the gunman had an intended target, but police shared a surveillance image of the suspect and his alleged getaway driver — taken before the shooting inside Empanada Mama on Ninth Avenue near West 51st Street.
