Enoe was charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon, even as the guard's friends and family told the Daily News the stabbing it was self defense.

A street vendor who saw the fight told the Daily News the supposed shoplifter had a standing problem with Enoe and that he'd punched the guard in the face.

That's when Enoe reached for a knife, the street vendor told the Daily News.

Enoe's mother, who spoke with her son after the arrest, said he was knocked to the ground and only protecting himself, the News reports.

“It’s frustrating and depressing that my son has been charged," the mother told the Daily News. "My son was defending himself.”
