Midtown November Crime Data: Robbery Down, Burglary Up
Major crime in November was nearly five percent lower that it was in 2022, but some reports were still on the rise, according to NYPD data.

MIDTOWN, NY — The November CompStat numbers show mostly good news for Midtown when it comes to reported crime.
Most crimes are still on a steady decline, but a few climbed higher as the weather got colder, according to recently released NYPD data.
Crime reports in November fell 4.57 percent in Midtown North — also called the 18th Precinct — compared to the same time last year, and is down a staggering 12.14 percent year-to-date over 2022, the data shows.

While most major felony reports fell over the last 28-day reporting period ending on Dec. 3 — the NYPD does not release data based on the Gregorian calendar — including rape (100 percent), robbery (35 percent) and grand larceny (4 percent), some felonies jumped up compared to the same time period last year.
The biggest jump in major crimes was seen in burglary (37.5 percent) followed by felony assault (10 percent) and grand larceny auto, which remained unchanged compared to 2022.

Other crimes were also generally on the decline, like transit crimes, which saw two fewer incidents than last year, and petit larceny, which fell 29 percent.
Over the summer, when crime typically spikes across the city, Midtown North saw a decline in August of 20 percent compared to the same time in 2022, and at that point, the year-to-date crime report difference was around 10 percent.
That year-to-date gulf increased in November, with reports of major crimes coming in at 12.14 percent less than at the same point in 2022.
While the declines in reported crime incidents might indicate a return to safer streets, crime is still high compared to recent pre-pandemic years, but less so than earlier this year.
In August, reported crime was still up by over 42 percent year-to-date when compared to two years ago, and up by just eight percent from 13 years ago.
Those same numbers three months later? Only 29.34 percent higher than two years ago — and just 4.46 compared to 13 years ago.
When compared to 2001, last year's crime numbers were still 48 percent lower on average.
