MIDTOWN, NY — When it comes to being a burglar, perhaps it's best not to overthink things.

At least that's what it seems like after two recent robberies in Midtown left a trip of violent muggers with a purse in hand and a quartet of jewelry thieves walking away empty handed after encountering a too-tough safe, police said.

The first and fruitful robbery on Aug. 10 took place on the A train near the 42st. - Port Authority station at about 12:15 a.m., police said.

Two days later on Saturday night at about 11:20 p.m., four soon-to-be-failures brought their burglar tools to help them cut their way into the stairwell of a jewelry shop specializing in diamonds on West 56th Street near Fifth Avenue, police said.

Once the quartet entered the shop, they tried to crack a safe but found it too difficult and left the store empty handed, police said.

Police released photos of people believed to be connected to both crimes.

Officials ask that anyone with information in regard to either incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
