Mom Carrying Stroller Dies After Fall Down Subway Steps: NYPD
The woman and her 1-year-old daughter were found Monday night on the Seventh Avenue and W. 53rd Street subway platform.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — A woman carrying her young daughter in a stroller died Monday night after falling down a set of steps in a Midtown subway station, police said.
Officers arrived at the Seventh Avenue and West 53rd Street B/D/E station around 8 p.m. to find 22-year-old Malaysia Goodson unconscious and unresponsive. Goodson's 1-year-old daughter was found conscious and unharmed, police said.
EMS rushed Goodson, a resident of Stamford, Connecticut, to Mt. Sinai West hospital where she was pronounced dead, police said.

The city medical examiner will determine Goodson's exact cause of death, police said.
City councilman Keith Powers, whose district includes the Seventh Avenue subway station, called Goodson's death a tragedy Tuesday in a statement calling for more accessible subway stations.

"The loss of Malaysia Goodson is a tragedy. It is unacceptable that of 472 subway stations across the City, just 118 are designed for accessibility – making it nearly impossible for everyone to get where they need to go. The West 53rd Street and 7th Avenue station is one of 15 stations in my district that lacks an elevator and is not ADA accessible," Powers said in a statement.
Powers added that all MTA projects at subway stations should include plans to make the stations accessible.
There are no elevators at the Seventh Avenue and West 53rd Street B/D/E station. The nearest stations with elevator access on the lines are 59th Street-Columbus Circle, 42nd Street-Port Authority and 47-50 Streets Rockefeller Center, which are all about a 10 to 15 minute walk from the station.
