UPDATE: Service resumed around 7 p.m. with significant delays, NJ Transit said.

MIDTOWN, NYC – All NJ Transit train service into and out of New York City has been suspended due to fire department activity near Secaucus.

NJ Transit said rail tickets are being cross-honored on PATH trains.

The shutdown came at the height of Thursday evening's rush as thousands of commuters were trying to travel out of Penn Station.
