Port Authority Sets First Public Meeting On Bus Terminal Project
The agency is considering three different approaches to rebuild or relocate its Midtown bus terminal.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has scheduled its first public meetings to discuss the planned reconstruction of the agency's Midtown Manhattan bus terminal.
Two meetings will be held July 10 — one in New York and the other in Tenafly, New Jersey — where people can learn more about the Port Authority's options to reconstruct its bus terminal and voice concerns regarding the plans, Port Authority officials announced this week. A second round of meetings is expected to occur on Sept. 5, according to the announcement.
"The public meetings are part of the Port Authority’s robust 120-day public outreach process to solicit comment from elected officials in New York and New Jersey, the City of New York, neighborhood residents, other stakeholders and the public on plans for a new Port Authority Bus Terminal," a Port Authority press release reads.

New York City presentations will be held at 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the Westin Hotel Times Square on West 43rd Street and Eighth Avenue.
The multi-state agency is currently considering three distinct proposals to either completely reconstruct its Eighth Avenue bus terminal or to relocate some or all of its bus operations to a brand-new location, according to a scoping document released in late May.

The first proposal calls for rebuilding the Eighth Avenue terminal at its current location on Eighth and Ninth avenues between West 40th and 42nd streets. The rebuilt terminal would be supplemented by a new underpass connecting it to the Lincoln Tunnel via Ninth Avenue. The Port Authority estimates that the current terminal could still be used while construction is being done.
Alternative proposals include relocating some or all of the bus terminal's operations to the lower levels of the Jacob K Javits Convention Center near Hudson Yards.
