MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — People passing through the heart of Midtown on Tuesday were startled to see a massive swarm of bees that had collected on a lamppost, steps from Rockefeller Center.
The enormous swarm converged around 4 p.m. on the post at the southwest corner of West 47th Street and Sixth Avenue. It included many as 10,000 bees, ABC7 reported.
Footage showed the insects coating the pole and partly obscuring the street sign as a crowd gathered below.

The NYPD — whose resident beekeeper had reportedly retired on Monday — blocked off the street, and another detective mounted a ladder to vacuum up the bugs.
It's the latest in a series of bee-related incidents to strike Midtown this summer. On at least two occasions, the NYPD has had to relocate large numbers of bees from the middle of Times Square.
