Storm Threatens Bryant Park Film Festival's Opening Day

The Bryant Park lawn is closed due to the weather, but moviegoers can view "King Kong" at 5 p.m. from the lawn's perimeters.

MIDTOWN, NY — UPDATE: Bryant Park announced on its Facebook page that, while the opening-day film would be showed on schedule, the Bryant Park lawn has been closed due to the weather. Hester Street Fair has also been cancelled for the evening. Moviegoers will instead be able to sit along the perimeter of the lawn.


Monday's launch of the HBO Bryant Park Film Festival could be scrapped as severe thunderstorms are expected to roll into the city Monday.

The park was expected to screen "King Kong" on its lawn from 5 p.m. But weather forecasts warned of torrential rain starting around 4 p.m.

The storms are expected to bring up to two inches of rain with wind gusts up to 30 miles per hour.
