Swiss Tourist Arrested For Flying Drone Into Times Square Window

The 28-year-old went to the building the morning after flying his drone through a window and was arrested.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — A Swiss tourist is facing charges for breaking New York City's administrative code after flying a drone through the window of a Times Square high-rise building, police said.

Paolo Prosetti was arrested Monday at 1700 Broadway, a 42-story office tower located between West 53rd and 54th streets, after he went to the building to retrieve a drone he had been flying the night before. The 28-year-old tourist accidentally flew the drone through a window of the office building on Sunday night, police said.

Despite Prosetti's apologies and offers to pay for any damage caused, a building manager called the cops on the tourist when he showed up at the building, the Daily News reported. An NYPD spokesperson could not confirm that it was the building manager that called police.

It is illegal for unlicensed drone operators to fly the remote-controlled aircraft in most parts of New York City. The city only has five designated "model aircraft fields" where flying a drone is allowed. These fields are located in Calvert Vaux Park and Marine Park in Brookyln, Flushing Meadows Corona Park and Forest Park in Queens and La Tourette Park in Staten Island, according to the city Parks Department.
