Dreamt of visiting the land of fire and ice but loathe leaving Manhattan? You're in luck: Taste of Iceland begins Thursday.

MIDTOWN, NY – An Icelandic culture festival, Taste of Iceland, is taking place in Manhattan this week, with events of all kinds – from food and music to author talks and comedy – beginning on Thursday, Sept. 5.

Learn to cook cod tacos, a traditional lamb soup (kjötsúpa), and a skyr ganache; consider seismic-safe design (life atop a volcanic island presents certain challenges); or rock out with Icelandic musicians like superserious and Klemens Hannigan. Hear from mystery authors Ragnar Jónasson and Yrsa Sigurðardóttir – a lot can happen during Icelandic winters, when there are only 5 hours of daylight – or laugh along with Ari Eldjárn, star of the Netflix special "Pardon my Icelandic.”

Events take place in venues across Manhattan, from Midtown and Chelsea to the Lower East Side. Although events are ticketed, most are free. Programming concludes on Sept. 7.
