Video: Man Randomly Stabbed On Midtown Street, Police Say
Video shows a man randomly stabbing a stranger steps from Herald Square, leaving him in critical condition, according to police.
MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — A man was randomly stabbed by a stranger in the middle of Midtown early Wednesday, according to police.
The victim, a 34-year-old man, was standing on West 36th Street just west of Broadway shortly before 1 a.m. Wednesday, when an unidentified man walked up and flashed a knife, police said.
Without provocation, the suspect plunged the knife into the man's abdomen, causing a "deep wound to the stomach," police said.

Surveillance video released by police shows the man coming up from behind and stabbing the victim, as the victim tries to fend off the assailant by throwing an object at him and hopping backward down the block.

The victim was rushed to Bellevue Hospital in critical but stable condition, while the suspect fled on foot eastbound along West 36th Street, police said.
