Vigilante Fires Gun On Midtown Subway Platform: Police, Report
Nobody was injured when the man reportedly fired two shots to stop a mugging, according to police and reports.

MIDTOWN, NY — A vigilante fired a gun inside of a busy Midtown subway station Tuesday night as a mugging took place, according to police.
No injuries were reported, and while the gunman is still at large, police arrested Matthew Roesch, 49, and charged him with attempted robbery.
At about 9:15 p.m., Roesch tried to mug a 40-year-old woman inside of the 49th Street subway station, police said.

According to the Daily News, Roesch held open an emergency door for the victim and then demanded her money or he would steal her purse.
An unknown man then fired off a gun on the platform, police said.

"Leave her alone," the Daily News reported the stranger saying, adding that he fired two shots from the gun.
The gunman fled the station and is still being sought.
Police gave Roesch's last known residence as an east side homeless shelter.
