Worker Dies After Fall At Midtown Construction Site, Police Say
The worker fell 30 feet at the Madison Avenue development site.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — A construction worker fell to his death while working in Midtown Manhattan this weekend, marking the latest in a rash of deaths on New York City building sites, police said.
The worker, an unidentified 49-year-old man, fell Saturday afternoon from the fifth floor of 335 Madison Avenue and landed on the building's second floor, police said. EMS rushed the worker to Bellevue following the 30-foot fall, and the man was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said.
The city Department of Buildings halted work at the construction site Sunday and a department investigation into the death is ongoing. DOB records do not show any violations against the building in relation to the death.

Dozens of construction permits for renovations at the Madison Avenue office tower have been filed in recent years. Developer Howard Milstein told the New York Post in 2017 that he would spend $100 million on renovations to the building such as a new entrance, a modernized facade and the addition of 150,000 square feet of retail and amenities for building tenants.
Three construction workers died at New York City building sites during a one-week span in April. Nelson Salinas died after being hit by a falling brick at a Midtown site, Erik Mendoza fell 13 stories at a Brooklyn Heights site and Gregory Echevarria was killed by a falling crane piece at a SoHo site.
