A Ridge couple was charged with abandoning 30 domestic rabbits in the woods in Calverton. A Middle Island man was also investigated by the SCPA, for mistreatment of his dog. A body was found on Whisky Road and police are still investigating the circumstances.

Peggy Spellam Hoey reports that a Middle Island man was charged with animal cruelty last week after the Suffolk County Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals determined he failed to provide his dog food or water for an extended amount of time. Sheldon Badgett, 49, left his dog outdoors on a 6-foot chain "attached to a piece of furniture," according to police. (Patch)
