1. Grant Parpan reports that the charges against Shoreham-Wading River teacher Veronica Pezdan have been upgraded. The 28-year-old teacher is accused of having sexual contact with a 15-year-old student. A top charge of promoting a sexual performance by a child, according to court records obtained by the Riverhead News-Review, joins five counts of third-degree rape and five more counts of third-degree criminal sexual act.   • The Town of Brookhaven announced it would rename Groveland Park Blvd. in Sound Beach in honor of HM2 Glen “Doc” Moody, U.S. Navy. Moody was born in Miller Place and was a veteran of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. He worked to help others with PTSD. A dedication service is planned for 11 a.m. (Town of Brookhaven)
