Schools Ask Cuomo To Relax Masks + Miracle Toddler Comes Home

In today's Daily, read about four local school districts that have formed a coalition to ask Cuomo to relax school mask mandates. Students and parents have a ton of end-of-year events on the schedule. A toddler from Mount Sinai is heading home from a long hospital stay. And some of the charges against a man who rammed a stolen car into a police car in February before allegedly being assaulted by Suffolk officers have been dropped.

1. Peggy Spellman Hoey has the report on a school coalition formed to challenge the New York State mask mandates in school. Comsewogue, Port Jefferson, Miller Place, and Rocky Point school districts joined forces to pen a letter to Gov. Cuomo saying that even though the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has relaxed guidelines, school mandates haven't been adjusted. (Patch)
2. Michael O'Keefe updates us on the case against Christopher Cruz who had been charged with second-degree assault, third-degree criminal mischief and resisting arrest after stealing a car in Port Jefferson before ramming a police car in Mount Sinai in February. Prosecutors dropped those three charges, leaving only grand larceny and criminal mischief. Two Suffolk police officers captured on a body camera video allegedly assaulting Cruz were suspended and are the target of a criminal investigation. (Newsday)

3. Jake Medlinger is a community Patch contributor who posted to recognize three Miller Place students who won honors at the 2021 Long Island Business Teachers' Association (LIBTA) contest. Matthew Niemczyk got first place in accounting; Zoe Bussewitz, first place in business law; and Alessandra Dimtchev nabbed fourth place in personal finance. (Patch)
