1. ABC News features a story of a 13-year-old Middle Island student who uncovered a Civil War veteran that hadn't been recognized. Carlie Preudhomme's efforts helped Albert J. Freeman, from Middle Island, a Black volunteer with the Union army in the Civil War, to be added to the official rolls. Freeman's name was added to the Longwood Civil War Memorial. (ABC News)

2. Lisa Finn warns Long Islanders on the East End to watch out for turtles crossing the road. April until July, thousands of turtles across Long Island cross roads, looking for a place to mate and nest, and are often hurt or killed. (Patch)

3. Owen O'Brien recaps the NCAA men’s lacrosse national championship game from Monday. Petey LaSalla of Miller Place, who graduated from Rocky Point High School, won 21 of 37 faceoffs and scored a goal, an assist and 11 ground balls for the Virginia Cavaliers who won 17 to 16. (Newsday)

  • Rocky Point students raised $2,880 in a read-a-thon to support the Madagascar Ankizy Fund. The Fund supports a school in Madagascar. The read-a-thon began 20 years ago and in 2008 enough money was raised to build The Rocky Point School. (Facebook)
  • Anabel Keegan, Katherine Keegan and Kate Provencher from Albert G. Prodell Middle School in Shoreham-Wading River were recognized by the VFW Post 6249 in Rocky Point for their projects to raise funds for veterans. (Facebook)
