Varsity Sports Scoreboard: Miller Place Boys Lax Get First Playoff Win

A look at how the local teams fared in their playoff matchups and what action is on the docket this week.

With a ton of local teams in the playoffs, there was plenty of varsity sports action over the weekend. A few teams advanced while others' seasons ended. Here's a look at how each team fared over the weekend:

Varsity Baseball

Miller Place

After defeating Mt. Sinai on Wednedsay, the Panthers fell to top-seeded Bayport-Blue Point 12-7 on Friday. In the two-game elimination format they are still alive and will now visit No. 2 Eastport-South Manor Monday at 4 p.m.

Rocky Point

Already in the losers-bracket, the No. 8 Eagles stayed alive Friday with a 7-4 win over Mt. Sinai.  Tyler Piccolo picked up the victory for Rocky Point and was also 2-for-4 at the plate. The win sets up a matchup with No. 7 Elwood-John Glenn on Monday at 4 p.m.

Mt. Sinai

The Mustangs season came to an end Friday with a 7-4 loss against Rocky Point.

Shoreham-Wading River

A Friday night loss to Eastport-South Manor by the score of 8-1 ended the season for the Wildcats.

Boys Lacrosse

Miller Place

For the first time in the program's young history, the boys lacrosse team advanced to the second round of the playoffs with an 11-6 win over Eastport-South Manor. Matt Liantonio had 18 saves in net and Ryan Callahan had three goals for the Panthers. They will challenge No. 1 Comsewogue on Thursday at 4 p.m. Admission is $6.

Shoreham-Wading River

The defending State Champions begin their title defense Thursday when they host Elwood-John Glenn. The game begins at 4 p.m. and admission is $6.

Girls Lacrosse


Rocky Point

The Eagles took down Westhampton 13-9 Saturday thanks to four goals from Alyssa Milano and three from Kristine Loscalzo. They advance and will take on Eastport-South Manor on Tuesday at 4 p.m. Admission is $6.

Mt. Sinai

The No.1 seed in the C Bracket hosts Bayport-Blue Point on Tuesday at 4 p.m. Admission is $6.

Softball

Three local teams have made the softball playoffs, which begin Tuesday when No. 5 Shoreham-Wading River takes on No. 4 Sayville and No. 6 Rocky Point travels to take on No. 3 Islip. The top-seeded Miller Place Panthers play Thursday at home at 4 p.m. against the winner of S-WR and Sayville.
