3. Legislator Sarah Anker's office wrote on Patch to recognize some top Shoreham-Wading River School students. The following students were named at a Board of Education meeting to recognize outstanding students: Valedictorians, Owen Beran and Mika Misawa, and Salutatorian Daniel Julian. High school students nominated by guidance counselors: Owen Beran, Aaron McClintock, Kelly Cassidy, Caitlin Thrash, Paul Loscalzo, and Jake Wilson. High school students who excelled in athletics: Alec Gregorek, Catherine Erb, Francisco Cortes, Jake Halloran, Jeffrey Lachenmeyer, Johnny Schwarz, and Tyler Schwarz. High school student who presented research at Brookhaven National Lab: Jalal Sawas.
Middle school students who excelled in academics and community volunteerism: Benjamin Evans, Lauren DeRusso, Natalee Cortina, Michela Nobre, Kerrin McGuire, and Jocelyn Nastasi.
Middle school student who excelled in athletics: Emily Herr. Middle school students with outstanding musical achievements: Spencer Lee, Anthony Mango, Hannah Scotto, Liam McQuade, and Yiya Hu. (Patch)
4. Ian Stark lists the top children's playgrounds on Long Island. Heritage Park, 633 Mount Sinai-Coram Rd. in Mount Sinai, makes the grade, with a walking trail, a large grassy area, historical exhibits and of course the play structures. (Newsday)
