Whiz Kid: Miller Place Grad an Award-Winning Track Star, Musician

Michael Sayegh was an award-winning track star and musician during his time at Miller Place.

Name: Michael Sayegh - Age 18

School - Miller Place High School Class of 2013

Accomplishments: As a four year member of the Varsity Spring Track Team, Sayegh competed in the discus, 4 x 100 meter relay and 100 meter dash. He was undefeated in all home dual meets for the 2013 season in the 100 meter dash, with a personal record of 11.5 seconds.  He was the recipient of the high school's Spring Track and Field Athletic Award and has also been playing soccer with the Christian Youth Soccer League for the past six years.

Michael has volunteered his time with the Smithtown Tabernacle Church, assisting them with PowerPoint at their youth fellowship and helping them with the lighting for their Passion Play production at Easter.

The recent grad was also deeply involved in the arts during his time at MPHS. He handled the lighting for the variety shows and the drama productions of Fiddler on the Roof, Sweeney Todd and Into the Woods and participated in the variety shows on the piano, taking first place for his category as a junior.

Sayegh played the clarinet in the Symphonic Band and as a senior, his excellence on the clarinet earned him a spot at the New York State Council of Administrators for Music Education (NYSCAME) festival. This festival takes Suffolk County's very best 11th and 12th grade musicians. He was the recipient of the NYSCAME/All County Band Award for Musical Excellence, as well as the Outstanding Contribution to Symphonic Band Award.

Along with those awards, he also received the Nicholas Lastorka Memorial Art Scholarship and earned the Computer Aided Design Academic Award. In the fall, he plans to attend Suffolk County Community College for two years and then to complete his degree at SUNY FIT with a major in computer arts/animation.
