Yard Sales Equal Community Spirit in Sound Beach

Summertime yard sales are already a Long Island pastime, but in Sound Beach this weekend, folks made it an anchor of community spirit.

For the first time, the Sound Beach Civic Association coordinated with residents to organize 22 yard sales in one day throughout the community, according to a story published Sunday in Newsday.

“This is something that’s going to work for our community, there’s a real community spirit here,” civic association president Bea Ruberto told Newsday.

Ruberto said the yard sales were an attempt to raise awareness of the civic association's scholarship program, for which donations were down this year.
