Long Island Teen Who Tried to Charge Phone on Broadway Stage: 'Girls Were Calling'

The lacrosse player from Seaford will reportedly apologize Friday for jumping on the "Hand to God" stage last week.

A Long Island teen will reportedly meet with the Broadway cast of “Hand to God” Friday after he jumped on their stage last week in an attempt to charge his iPhone.

Nick Silvestri, 19, of Seaford, caused a stir on July 2 when he hopped on stage before a performance and tried to plug his phone charger into a fake outlet on the set.

Steven Boyer, star of “Hand to God,” said Silvestri’s stunt was the worst behavior he had ever witnessed from an audience member and that it had “affected the whole show,” according to New York Daily News.

Silvestri is set to meet with the “Hand to God” cast Friday afternoon to address the incident and to apologize, according to NYDN. He already gave an apology in Playbill in which he tried to look on the bright side.

Hey, I’m sorry if I delayed your show five minutes. But you got a lot of attention from this, so maybe I made your show a little better [better known],” he said.

Silvestri, who plays lacrosse for Nassau Community College, said he was in Manhattan with family and had gotten “a little banged up” on drinks at dinner that night before the show.

Realizing his battery was low because “girls were calling all day,” he tried to charge his phone on the stage. Security ushered him away from the stage with his uncharged phone and when he sat back down, he was scolded by a manager, according to the report.

A video called “Moron jumps on stage on Broadway to try and charge his phone in a fake outlet” was uploaded to YouTube by user garruba1 and thrust the incident into the national spotlight. The video show Silvestri crawling onto the stage and trying to plug in his phone. Several security guards charge down the aisle and confront him before the clip ends.

The video went viral and had more than 500,000 hits on YouTube as of Friday afternoon. Watch here:
