Nassau Woman Confronts Burglar In Her Home, Police Say

Officers found the suspect near the home and took him into custody.

MINEOLA, NY — A Georgia man has been arrested after police said he tried to break in to a Mineola home Tuesday morning. Around 10 a.m. Wednesday, a woman heard a knock on a side door of her Garfield Avenue home.

When she approached her door she was confronted by an unknown man standing in her home, police said. She called 911 and the man took off before police could arrive.

Officers searching for the suspect found Gordon Markais, 37, of Austell, Georgia, near the home and took him into custody.

Markais faces charges of 2nd-degree burglary, possession of burglar tools and trespassing. He was expected to appear Wednesday in 1st District Court in Hempstead.
