Animal Shelter Asks Community For Help As Heater Repairs Delayed
The Hudson Valley animal shelter is in need of doggy coats, portable heaters, firewood and straw, among other emergency items.
MOUNT VERNON, NY — Freezing temperatures are on the way and a few of our furry friends are in need of a helping hand after ongoing supply chain issues delayed heater repairs at a Westchester County animal shelter.
The heater at the Mount Vernon Animal Shelter is not working and parts needed to rectify the issue have been delayed, shelter officials report. The organization had hoped the repairs would be complete before the arrival of frigid conditions, but that is beginning to look less likely.
In the meantime, the group is asking the public's help in collecting emergency supplies.

The shelter and the animals who live there are in need of at least three portable heaters. Officials are also asking for winter coats for the dogs, in sizes ranging from medium to XXL. There is also an urgent need for straw for the feral cat houses and firewood for the fire pit in the yard, according to a plea from the shelter posted on social media.
The increasingly critical supply drive has been complicated by the fact that the shelter's phone lines are also out of order at the moment. The organization is asking potential donors to message the Mount Vernon Animal Shelter on social media or send an email to mtvernonanimalshelter@gmail.com to arrange a donation drop off.
