Cross County Shopping Center to Give Sneak Peek of Yonkers Art Weekend
A preview will be held Saturday, May 7 from noon to 4 p.m.

Cross County Shopping Center announced Friday, April 29 that it will be giving visitors a sneak peek of the annual Yonkers Arts Weekend by hosting a preview event at the shopping mall on Saturday, May 7 from noon to 4 p.m. Yonkers Arts Weekend, which is an annual event hosted by the City of Yonkers and takes place at various cultural hot spots in other areas of the city, will occur the following week, Saturday, May 14 through Sunday, May 15.
For the first time, arts enthusiasts will get the chance to see a preview prior to the annual art event. On Saturday, May 7 at Cross County Shopping Center, Urban Studio Unbound (US+U), a new gallery located in downtown Yonkers and home to a large number of diverse artists, will host approximately 10 artists in the center of the mall. Attendees will see various art mediums on display and for sale, including textiles, ceramic art, paintings and more. In addition, kids will be able to get creative by participating in free arts and crafts activities, from 1-3 p.m.

“We’re excited to be celebrating the arts in our community and partnering with the City of Yonkers for this amazing preview event,” said Liz Pollack, senior nanager of Marketing for Cross County Shopping Center. “We love the arts and we know our shoppers do, too. Bringing fantastic events like this to our shopping center aligns well with our overall mission to provide fun and free activities to shoppers. This is a great start to our annual SummerFest celebration this year.”
A week after this event, more than 300 regional and international artists, designers, photographers, craftsmen, musicians and more will converge in the city to showcase their works during Yonkers Arts Weekend. A free shuttle will take people to the venues, which include Downtown Yonkers Waterfront District, YoHo Artist Open Studios, Untermyer Gardens and the Hudson River Museum. Street artists Eelco van den Berg, Crash, Fumero, Damien Mitchell and Werc Alvarez will be painting walls downtown, accompanied by interactive art events, street performances from Purchase College and more than 35,000 sq. ft. of popup gallery space. A 5k color run by The Color Vibe kicks off the festivities on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. Fashion Show Sunday at the beautiful Untermyer Gardens will feature the work of Project Runway winner Irina Shabayeva, Adrienn Braun and the Queen Enidiok Collection.

The preview of Yonkers Arts Weekend at Cross County Shopping Center is one of the kickoff events for the shopping center’s annual SummerFest celebration. SummerFest is free to the public and draws tens of thousands of residents from Upper Manhattan and the Bronx to White Plains and neighboring Westchester counties. Plus, attendees can enjoy the annual SummerFest Dining & Savings Guide with special offers from more than 20 retailers and restaurants.
