Cross County's Summer Fest Kicks Off For 2018

From Cross Country Shopping Center: Westchester residents are invited to grab some shades, maybe a lawn chair or two and bring friends and families to enjoy the sunshine and fun at Cross County Shopping Center’s 8th Annual Summer Fest. Summer begins early in Yonkers with the annual seasonal celebration at the outdoor mall. Filled with a variety of signature activities and NEW attractions, Summer Fest begins in mid-May and runs through August.

“Winter was so long! So, we’re happy to say good bye to the cold temperatures and welcome the sunny skies of summer, filled with engaging outdoor entertainment at our annual Summer Fest event,” said Liz Pollack, Senior Manager of Marketing for Cross County Shopping Center. “This year, we’re pleased to roll out a new roster of music bands that range in genre, a new Story Time series for kids and outdoor Yoga “Fit Fest” classes, among other fun events that families can experience together, while visiting their favorite stores and eateries.”

Summer Fest Kick Off Weekend

Saturday and Sunday, May 19-20, 12:00-3:00 p.m.

Guests are invited to come to The Green at the center of the outdoor mall to get a sneak peek of what to expect at this year’s Summer Fest. An array of interactive activities, including food trucks, music from 95.5FM DJ Mike Allan, face painting, strolling street theater artists and beauty makeovers from Macy’s and Ulta Beauty will be offered throughout the day. Also, an all-new Instagram Wall will be installed at Center Court for the perfect summer photo op that can be shared on social media with family and friends. Yoga “Fit Fest” Fitness Classes

May 22, 23, 29 and 30 and June 5, 6, 12 and 13 at 6:30 p.m.

Shoppers are invited to bring their exercise routine to the great outdoors! Erica Garcia, instructor at the Nueva Alma yoga studio located on McLean Avenue in Yonkers, will be bringing her unique and inspiring yoga classes to The Green, in the center of the mall. Classes are free and yoga mats will be provided on loan during each class. Family Yoga classes (kids ages 5 and up welcome) take place on 5/29 and 6/6.

Kids Events: Story Time and Workshops with Hudson River Museum

Children’s Story Time

Thursdays, May 31 and June 7 at 10:00 a.m.; July 25, August 1 and 8 at 6:30 p.m.

Encourage more reading and interactive play with this new Children’s Story Time feature at this year’s Summer Fest! Join in with several members of the local community as they select and read a story to children in an intimate setting outdoors on The Green.

Experience the Hudson River Museum at Cross County Shopping Center

Art Workshop: Tuesday, July 24, 10:00 a.m.; Science Workshop: Thursday, July 26, 6:30 p.m.

Cross County Shopping Center is partnering with the Hudson River Museum in Yonkers to feature fun, interactive workshops for children that focus on art and science. Experience a taste of what the museum offers, all under the outdoor setting of Cross County Shopping Center. Representatives from the multidisciplinary museum will facilitate workshops onsite that are themed with the features at the museum, including 19th century through contemporary American art, a state-of-the-art-planetarium, a hands-on environmental gallery and educational programming.

Fireworks & Concert Celebration

Tuesday, July 3 (rain day Friday, July 6); Concert 7:00 p.m. and Fireworks at 9:30 p.m.

In celebration of Independence Day, the FDR Drive band will perform a concert on the Summer Fest stage from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. followed by spectacular fireworks show from the north parking lot at 9:30 p.m. (a portion of the lot will be closed for parking behind Shake Shack).

Outdoor Concerts

June 21 and 28; July 3, 12 and 19

Shoppers are invited to bring their beach blankets and chairs to The Green and enjoy live music by some of the hottest tribute bands. This year’s lineup includes the following new bands: June 21: Marshall Charloff & The Purple Xperience (straight from Minnesota), June 28: Simply Diamond, July 3: FDR Drive, July 12: Who Loves You? and July 19: Rubix Kube 80’s Tribute Band.

Foodie Fridays

Fridays, August 3, 10 and 17, 5:30-8:30 p.m.

Back for its second year, shoppers can join in on a not-to-be-missed food truck party at Cross County Shopping Center, which will take place on the first three Fridays of August. Guests will enjoy some of the tastiest food truck cuisine favorites along with samples from Cross County Shopping Center eateries. While tasting yummy bites, shoppers will listen to the tunes of 95.5FM DJ Mike Allan. A special treat will be a live performance by Rakiem Walker Project of Red Rooster Restaurant in Harlem on August 10. A portion of the food truck sale proceeds will benefit Feeding Westchester, the leading hunger-relief organization in Westchester County, which supports over 300 front-line hunger relief programs. Feeding Westchester provides 95 percent of all the food given to families, children and seniors who are experiencing hunger in the county.
