Mount Vernon Auxiliary Police Officer Suspended After Troubling Video Emerges On Social Media

The footage that appears to show the MVPD employee striking a minor is under investigation, according to the police department.

MOUNT VERNON, NY — A video that has emerged online of an incident that appears to involve a uniformed Mount Vernon police officer, has led to an internal investigation and the suspension of that officer, according to the department.

"The Mount Vernon Police Department is aware of a video appearing to show an off-duty civilian
employee of the Mount Vernon Police Department, who is also a member of the Mount Vernon Auxiliary Police Department, appearing to strike what appears to be a minor," the MVPD said in a statement released on Tuesday. "This incident appears to have taken place on Saturday. The incident is under investigation. The Member has been suspended from the Auxiliary Police position."

The department gave no other details about the investigation. Footage circulating online appears to indicate that the concerning exchange took place outside of a fast food restaurant.
