Mount Vernon Health Care Facility Awarded $45K Via CARES Act

MOUNT VERNON, NY — The Westchester County Business Financial Investments for Recovery and a Sustainable Tomorrow Program awarded Wartburg, a health and rehabilitative care facility $45,000 in grant funds.

The new program is designed to offer immediate financial relief to organizations in Westchester County that have been negatively impacted by the pandemic, and is administered by the County Office of Economic Development through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act.

“These are difficult times, and we are grateful that the Office of Economic Development supports County nonprofits,” Dr. David Gentner, president & CEO of Wartburg, said in a statement. “Wartburg is a large economic driver in lower Westchester and this funding will help in the protracted pandemic recovery and repositioning.”

The Westchester County Business FIRST Program is eligible to businesses, nonprofits and religious entities facing challenges because of Covid-19 and will provide up to $17 million to those groups this year, according to Westchester County Executive George Latimer.

“Our nonprofits and religious organizations have been a vital resource to the communities they support throughout the duration of the pandemic. This round of grant funding is an investment in organizations that are critical to our residents in need of financial relief,” Latimer said in a prepared statement.

The Business FIRST Program will address issues related to an increased demand for services, the significant costs for personal protective equipment, loss of funding and other pandemic-related challenges that have impacted their operating costs and income via the American Rescue Plan, according to the county executive.
