Mt. Vernon City School District Graduation Rates Increase By 6 Percent

From Mount Vernon City School District: The student graduation rate within the Mount Vernon City School District has grown an exceptional 6 percentage points in 2016. The New York State Education Department today announced graduation rates for schools across the state.

Data shows that the Mount Vernon graduation rate rose to 61 percent in 2016, from 55 percent the previous year and 48 percent in 2014. The district graduated 345 students in 2016, compared to 301 in 2015.

The percentage of students graduating with a Regents Diploma grew to 51 percent, from 44 percent.

The percentage of boys who graduated grew to 57 percent, compared to 48 percent in 2015. Forty-seven percent of the boys graduated with a Regents Diploma, compared with 37 percent the prior year.

The percentage of girls who graduate grew to 65 percent, compared to 62 percent in 2015. Fifty-six percent of the girls graduated with a Regents Diploma, compared with 51 percent the prior year.

“This is concrete evidence that we’re headed in the right direction for better student achievement with the 20/20 Vision,” said Superintendent Dr. Kenneth R. Hamilton. “The transformation of the Mount Vernon City School District continues and this data represents another important step in our journey. Our expectation is that improvement will continue as the 20/20 Vision becomes fully implemented.”
